In Unit C6 students extend their skills in legato and staccato to include ‘drop and float’ articulation (sometimes called couplets). For example:
- Students need to understand staccato and legato sounds individually before approaching this technique.
- Discuss how we use the weight of the arm to make different sounds, and encourage the student to experiment using scales patterns or other simple technical exercises.
- Ensure students are floating off from the second note, and not emphasising it with the staccato sound.
