In Unit D5 students will be introduced to the terms sforzando and fortepiano. They will learn how to effectively accomplish those sounds on the piano and the different shortened signs they may see.
Activities
- Get students to experiment with these sounds at the piano, away from the book. Discuss the techniques they need to employ to make both sounds effectively.
- Think about what happens inside the piano – refresh or reinforce students’ memories by looking inside the piano if possible.
- Get students to spot and identify these performance directions in their pieces.
