Students should learn the tonic triads and the broken chords of the keys and scales they’ve learned:
- G major
- D major
- F major
- A minor
- D minor
They should also be able to identify chords I and V in the keys of the pieces that they play.
Activities
- Include tonic triads and broken chords as part of a warm up or before pieces in relevant keys.
- Ask students to identify chords I and V in their pieces (make sure they have established the key of the piece first).
