In Stage D students are introduced to ornaments, and in Unit D13 they are required to learn about acciaccaturas.
- Get students to write acciaccaturas on a piece of manuscript paper so they know what to look for.
- Ask students to identify any grace notes in their pieces.
- Ensure students know which note to play on the beat. If appropriate encourage them to think about the harmony and think about which note is the decoration and which is the “melody note”
- Students should feel the pulse as they play, so they can more easily sound the main note on the beat. You might get students to practice the melody notes first, then add the decoration to ensure the rhythm is correct.
