In Stage F, students should learn about rubato, and start to incorporate it in their playing with significant guidance from their teacher. Other terms and tempos they are likely to encounter at this level include:
- tempo comodo
- con brio
- Include listening in your practice for each week, and in the lesson. Encourage the student to listen to lots of different music, including pieces that include rubato. Check Youtube for videos of the student’s repertoire.
- Remind students to clap a pulse before the start to learn a new piece.
- Discuss how the tempo contributes to the mood or character of the music.
