Unit G09 – Accidentals

In this unit students learn about double sharps and double flats. They should become confident at finding these on their instrument and experience playing pieces with them in.

Activities

  • Introduce the symbols to double sharps and double flats when appropriate.
    • For example, this might be when they first encounter them in a piece, or in an abstract sense if necessary.
  • Use temporary markers (break out the Iwako erasers again, or use indexing tabs, buttons, or similar) to mark out double sharps and double flats on the piano. Encourage students to do this using their knowledge of tones and semitones.
