Continuing to learn about different musical structures, students should learn and play pieces in the following forms:
- minuet and trio
- fugue
- suite
- rondo
Students may opt to learn just one or two movements from a suite, but should develop some awareness of the stylistic differences between the movements.
Activities
- The above forms are popular styles of classical music, and should be included in a varied repertoire for a broad experience.
- Discuss the form of each piece with the student. Link it with other pieces they have learned.
- Set some listening homework by creating a playlist of pieces on YouTube, Spotify, or similar. Include works for other instruments as well.
